I heard that synthetic oil is too thin for use in an older car and creates blow-by and burn-off. Is this true?
This is only true if the blow-by problem exists prior to using a synthetic oil. If you have a leaking or blow-by problem, synthetic oils can make the issue worse, but they do not cause it to happen

Im selben Link gibt es noch eine interessanten Verweis auf die Funktion des Phosphors im Oel (die aufgelisteten Ingredienzien erinnern mich an ein Salat-Dressing statt an ein Oel). Der Phosphor verbindet sich mit dem Metall des Motors und bildet eine Schicht die dann vom Motor abgeschabt wird. Nanu?
