300 Mercedes-Benz urban and rural regular-service buses for Uzbekistan

Large local public transport order for passenger transport in the capital city

Public transport operator orders 300 Mercedes-Benz Conecto urban and rural regular-service buses. First 100 buses handed over in Tashkent on 30 July 2003

Stuttgart/Tashkent, Aug 18, 2003

The first 100 of a total of 300 Mercedes-Benz Conecto urban and rural-service buses were recently handed over in Tashkent/Uzbekistan during a ceremony with 200 invited guests from government and administrative departments. On 30 July 2003 Wolfgang Presinger, Executive Managing Director of the Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach Unit at EvoBus GmbH, and Roland Sabais, who is responsible for export sales at Mercedes-Benz Türk A.S., handed over the keys for the new high-floor regular-service buses to Rafjan Faizulayev, Deputy Mayor of the city of Tashkent and Chairman of the state-owned local public
transport organisation Tashgorpasstrans. The 70 Conecto C urban buses and 30 Conecto Ü rural-service buses are part of a major order for a total of 300 Conecto buses which will be delivered to Uzbekistan in stages. The vehicles are being financed with Hermes credits by Deutsche Bank supported by DaimlerChrysler AG.

The customer for the 300 buses from the Conecto series is the state-owned local public transport organisation Tashgorpasstrans, which is responsible for urban public transport in the capital city of Tashkent. The major features of the recently delivered Conecto urban and rural regular-service buses include the 6-cylinder Euro 2 diesel engine OM 447 hLA with an output of 185 kW (252 hp). The rural-service bus variants are equipped
with a manual transmission, while the Conecto C urban buses feature a ZF automatic transmission. The 12-metre long solo buses all have three entry doors.

Tashgorpasstrans and the Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach product unit at DaimlerChrysler AG have enjoyed an outstanding working relationship for many years. The foundations for this were laid back in 1993, with a first delivery of 280 model O 405 urban buses of which the majority are still in daily operation under the most severe conditions (roads, heat, overloading) - some of these buses have already covered a mileage of more than 800,000 km. A total of more than 600 Mercedes-Benz buses from the Mercedes-Benz bus and coach production plants of DaimlerChrysler AG in Germany and Turkey are now in operation in Uzbekistan.

For years the Conecto urban and rural regular-service buses produced by the Turkish DaimlerChrysler subsidiary Mercedes-Benz Türk A.S. have proved their worth in rigorous regular service in more than 50 countries worldwide. The model most frequently
encountered in western Europe is the high-floor Conecto H rural-service bus, which is for instance also operated by the Bahnbus subsidiaries in Germany.
